Cinco Salomão Mestre Esquilo (CDO)

*Cinco Salomão is a simplified for the ease in pronunciation version of "Signo Salomão" (Sign of Salomon). According to the legend of capoeira, we are deeply linked to the biological origin of man as flesh, to the divine nature of man as spirit, to the magic of the berimbau’s rhythmic melody, and to the wisdom represented in our popular culture by an Afro-Semitic-Christian hybrid – “São Salomão,” “feito,” and the Biblical King Solomon.

It contributed to the five- or six-pointed star as a symbol of wisdom, justice, and royalty. The mixed-blood Brazilians crowned the Jewish star (five-pointed) with the cross of Jesus, expressing deep respect and belief in the Nazarene. On the contrary, the Negro do Pixe instill and emphasize the magic symbol of protection (six-pointed star).

Português

Quando sai da minha casa
Trago berimbau na mão,
Tenho meu corpo fechado
E um Cinco Salomão.*
Lê lêlêlê lêlê-lê!
Lê lêlêlê lêlê-a!

Ê-ê-ê! O batuque vai olhar
Ê-ê-ê! Abra roda que eu vou.
Ê-ê-ê! Abra roda eu vou jogar,
Ê-ê-ê! Capoeira já canto.

Trago voz forte no peito
Pra espantar qualquer bichão.
Quando chego numa roda
Bate com pé e com a mão.
Lê lêlêlê lêlê-lê!
Lê lêlêlê lêlê-a!

Coro

Vamos embora, seu moço,
Tira esse pé no chão,
Vamos plantar a bananeira
Roda de pião de mão!
Lê lêlêlê lêlê-lê!
Lê lêlêlê lêlê-a!

Coro

English

When you came to my home
Holding the berimbau in hand,
I protected my body
With the Sign of Salomon.
Le lelele lele-le!
Le lelele lele-a!

E-e-e! I will listen to the beat
E-e-e! In an open roda.
E-e-e! I will play and sing
E-e-e! In the roda of capoeira.

I am singing at the top of my voice
To scare off any daredevil.
When I get into the roda,
I fight with my feet and hands.
Le lelele lele-le!
Le lelele lele-a!

Go, young boy,
Get on your feet there,
Show a bananeira (handstand)
And pivot on your hands in roda!
Le lelele lele-le!
Le lelele lele-a!
